Nourishing Our Community. Empowering Futures.
How We Serve
The critical need for The StoreHouse's services resonates deeply within our community. The USDA defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life,” and people in the report who are referred to as food insecure were identified as having one or more food-related hardships during the last year.
In 2023, food insecurity in America reached its highest level in nearly a decade. With 47 million people—19 million of them children- facing uncertain food access, immediate and systemic solutions are critical.
Here in the Greater Washington Area, nearly 37% of local respondents experienced uncertainty about their next meal at some point between May 2023 and May 2024.
This staggering figure underscores the daily struggle faced by far too many of our neighbors–your neighbors, our neighbors. It's a pervasive challenge that The StoreHouse is dedicated to confronting head-on, one meal, one family, one community at a time.
